In Milan, Groana means heath and Groane is that part of the dry plain located north-west of the city of Milan. Due to the low fertility of the clayey soil, rich in iron oxide, the area is cultivated to a small extent and has many pine forests and coppices. Architecturally interesting are some old brick kilns and several manor houses (Senago, Castellazzo di Bollate, Valera di Arese).

Oasis of Cesano Maderno

Lipu Oasis - Municipality of Cesano Maderno (MI).
LOasi, born in 1997 thanks to a collaboration between the LIPU, the Municipality of Cesano Maderno and the Parco delle Groane Consortium, occupies an area of about 100 hectares of woods, heaths and wetlands close to a very urbanized and industrialized area and constitutes one of the most important woodland management programs followed by the LIPU.
