Origin and diffusion

The origin of this Italian breed is unknown. It is raised in the innermost areas of the province of Salerno, in the high hills and mountains where the pastures are poorer and more difficult to reach. The farms are small and medium in size and of the wild or semi-wild type even if they are sedentary, with extensive use of grazing. The breed registry was activated in 2002.
It is mainly bred for the production of light kids and milk destined for transformation into cacioricotta, both fresh and seasoned.

Morphological and productive characteristics

Cut it: average.
Head: small; horns present in about half of the subjects (alpine or Gargano type); beard in most subjects.
Trunk: sturdy neck with presence of tettole in about half of the subjects. Deep chest and wide back. Predominantly bifid breast. Strong limbs with large, hard, black nails.
Pile:
black with generally long hair. Limited white patches on the belly and small flounces are tolerated. Thin and black skin.
Height average at the withers:
- Males cm. 77
- Females cm. 70

Seasonal polyestral sexual cycle and high prolificity.
